Wilhelm Tuhafeni is currently serving as National Development Office at Cricket Namibia, who is expanding Social Awareness, Community Development and integration, maintaining the spirit of the game. Wilhelm has seen an exponential rise in the development and envisions a continuous growth of cricket Namibia.

 I am a Cricket Development Officer currently at Cricket Namibia since 2014. 

3. Are you playing cricket currently? If Yes - Since how long are you playing cricket? What level of cricket have you played so far in your country?

Not really am only focusing on cricket development in my community and region tasked with the development of cricket in all schools.

4. Do you play for any club or a team? Mention their names? When was it founded? Where are you working currently?

 I don’t play cricket currently but I am working for Cricket Namibia as a Development Officer

5. Where do you and your team see yourself in coming 5 years? Where do you want to focus in order to improve your cricket?

Our vision for our cricket is to see it grow from the grassroots level to hardball cricket, I am seeing my team playing in competitive tournaments such as Club leagues and see most of my players playing for national team in different age groups, and in order to achieve this objective I am doing to improve on our development structures and ensure that they are more effective and inclusive we want to develop girls cricket team and put it on the same standard with boys cricket team. Thus far we have development teams from the age of u/11 and u/13 team since our development program started in the year 2014 through the program called FNB Kwata Cricket a partnership between Cricket Namibia and FNB Namibia.

7. Any recent achievements/activities that you had. (It could be organizing a small camp, or just playing a match or organizing a cricket camp or playing a tournament series) Do mention the date.

Our cricket teams started off the year 2017 with great achievements locally and National

Here are the achievements.

  1. FNB Kwata Cricket Launch 01 April 2017 this was a Fun day that attracted over 130 kids from various schools across Outjo
  2. Our u/13 and 15 players attended National trails on the 25/28 August for the first time since the development of cricket started in Outjo in 2014
  3. Our u/13 Cricket team received sponsorships of Match T-shirts from one of the local companies this is one of our greatest achievements 24 March 2017
  4. Development of our first girl's cricket team which consists of girls from various schools in the community 02 March 2017

8. Would you like to come to India for a tournament or a coaching camp? Or do you want to travel any other country (if Yes, please mention the name)?

 Yes we would like to visit India one day hopefully if assisted financially, I don’t necessarily travel but I would love.

9. What are the challenges you are facing in your country's cricket? If any, how do you feel to overcome those challenges?

 Namibia is a small country with most people from disadvantaged backgrounds, we have a shortage of facilities this is pulling down our cricket, however, we hope to overcome this by making use of the few facilities we have even though they are not sufficient.

10. One thing that you instantly need that would boost the involvement of people in your country's cricket?

I would suggest that Cricket Namibia or the Ministry of Sport should employ more sports officers that specialize in various sports codes these people should be sent into schools in order to scout talented kids at school level

Yes Outjo Youth Cricket Club, this Club consist of mostly disadvantaged players from the community and this club aim to change the lifestyles of these players by helping them to become better and successful cricket players in the future.
