Abass Gbla is an All Round Cricket Player from Sierra Leone and plays for the National Cricket Team of Sierra Leone. Abass plays for Mid West Cricket Club and has also represented National U19 Cricket Team of Sierra Leone. He was also a Vice Captain of U13 team. Well that's not enough! He has more feathers to his Cap. Abass played for the U15 team in the North West Africa Cricket Conference tournament, where he won the Man of the Series award. Mid West Cricket Club has so far been one of the top teams in Sierra Leone and Abass and his team is looking forward to maintain the dominance. He has several achievements to his name. The interview also takes us through the challenges faced in the region and ways in which these can be overcome.

Yes I am currently playing cricket.

3. Are you playing cricket currently? If yes-since how long are you playing cricket? What level of cricket have you played so far in your country.
Yes I am still playing, and I started playing cricket since way back, in a coaching clinic seminar organised by the Sierra Leone Cricket Association. And I am currently playing the SLCA PL for mid west cricket club. Also played for the Sierra Leone cricket U 19 team in Uganda 2013. And also I am a vice captain of the U13 team, that went to Ghana in 2009. Also played for the U15 team in the north west Africa cricket conference. (NWACC) tournament that was hosted in Ibadan federal Republic of Nigeria where I won the man of the series (player of the tournament) I have also played at senior level in 2010/2011/2012.at the ICC AFRICA WORLD CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION 2 tournament in Benoni, South Africa. And 2014 in ICC DIVISION 3 TOURNAMENT in Benoni south Africa.

Yes I have played for the Republic of Sierra Leone armed forces (RSLAF) Junior cricket club. 2006/2007 season. I am currently playing for mid west cricket club. Since 2008 to date. Mid west cricket club was founded on 1 October 2008 and I am correctly unemployed.

5. where do you and your team see your self in coming 5 years? Were do you want to focus in order to improve your cricket?
My team mid west is aiming to see ourself maintaining the dominance of the Sierra Leone cricket league. And opportunity to tour internationally to gain more experience and elite coaching.
I will like to focus on batting and swing bowling. In order to improve my cricket.

No my club and association doesn't have a website but do have a Facebook page, mid west cricket club.

7 . Any recent achievements/activities that you had. (It could be organizing a smallMid west Cricket Club of Sierra Leone Cricket camp, or just playing a match or organizing a cricket camp or playing a tournament series) do mention the date.
The recent achievement I gained is participating in the SLCA T/20 Premier league 2014 where I help my team mid west won and retained the national T/20 premier league. Between January 16 to February 28, 2014 season, I won 4 man of the match awards, against S/L police cricket team home & away, first leg 23 run off 16 balls and took 4 wicket. Second leg 58 runs 35 balls an pick up 3 wickets. And RSLAF an ASH IN PRO Cricket Club. I also participated in the ICC AFRICA WORLD CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION 3 TOURNAMENT, where I won 2 man of match awards against Rwanda and Gambia with a record of 4 wicket in 1 over, and I also helped my team Sierra Leone finish as runners up from 21 to 27 March 2014. I also participated in the Sierra Leone U-19 trials and I was selected as vice captain for the side . This was to participate in the ICC AFRICA WORLD CUP QUALIFICATIONS IN LUSAKA ZAMBIA 2014.

Yes I would like to visit India on an elite training and coaching camps. In order to improve my batting an bowling capacity as an all rounder. Yes I will like to travel to England (UK) to play an advanced cricket league.

9 . What are the challenges you are facing in your country's cricket? If any , how do you feel to overcome those challenges?
We face a lot of challenge here:

1.poor playing facilities 2 . short of playing equipment, 3.less concentration on players. We need to improve on more playing grounds and have a high performance coach, and we need a turf grounds, for now we need sponsor.
