Nomad Sports Club was founded in 1914 and cricket has been on the playing agenda since the club's inception. Nomads have the only grassed cricket-playing arena in Manila, Philippines and is primarily played in a social format by the expatriate community. The Philippine Cricket Association (PCA) was established in June 1999 with a goal of promoting and developing the sport in the Philippines. The PCA has its official base at Nomad Sports Club.
Australians, New Zealanders, British, South Africans, Zimbabweans, Indians and Pakistanis comprise the majority of foreign nationals playing cricket in Manila. Unfortunately, participation of Philippine nationals is limited at this stage.
Ground facilities consist of an artificial grass matting wicket on a partially prepared/rolled grass strip. The playing field is shared with rugby, football and numerous other sports and consequently preparation and maintenance of the pitch is restricted. Because of this batting is permitted at one end only. The cricket season is dictated by the seasonal weather conditions and generally commences at the beginning of October and concludes at the end of May.
Local league games are organized on a weekly basis playing on Sundays from 10am - 3pm. The usual format is a one day competition consisting of 25 overs per innings. Regular league teams during 2003 season have been limited to the Nomads Cricket Club and the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams.
'Manila Sixes' is held late Feb/early March each year and involves six teams from both local and international origin in a six-a-side limited overs competition vying for the coveted title.
The Gulf Air Cricket Club based in Bahrain, are annual tourists to Manila. They first toured in the late 1980's. Their tour coincides with the annual Manila Sixes.
The annual ANZAC CHALLENGE, Australia Vs New Zealand cricket match occurs on or around 25 April each year. Australia is current holder and leads the series 4-2.
The annual MANILA ASHES, England Vs Australia cricket match, occurs early May each year. Australia is current holder and leads the series 2-1.
The Nomads Cricket Club is captained by Mr. Sanjay Sujanani. Nomads Cricket Club is an active and an Award winning cricket club from Philippines. Mr. Awais Mohd is the best batsman (359 Runs) from the Nomads Cricket Club and Mr. Ruchir Mahajan is the best bowler award winner 3 years in a row. Mr. Ruchir Mahajan is also a member of the Philippine National Team.
